Which courses to take for better training, games and protection of AYSO kids?

All coaches (head coaches and assistant coaches) in Area 3/T are required to attend a one-time instructor led Safe Haven Coach course.

All coaches are required to attend an instructor led coach training course that is age appropriate to their players for the coming season.

After taking the age appropriate coaching course, coaches who wish to improve, Extra program coaches and anyone coaching in inter Area/Sectional or National games should attend at least the next level up coaching course to learn and understand where they will be going with skills, tactics, etc., to improve player training and to avoid coaching misinformation and errors.

The Under 12 Coach course is a pre-requisite for the U-14 Intermediate Coach course.  The Intermediate Coach course is a pre-requisite for the U-16/U19 Advanced Coach course.  No exceptions, please.

Coaches who haven't attended a course in two years should do so as this is an excellent opportunity to stay current on the latest coaching techniques and to get help with player training questions and issues.

All who coach in Area 3/T, Area Extra games, and Sectional or National games must have their one time Safe Haven Coach Instructor led course that they attended and all their coaching courses listed in their eAYSO record.  Regional Commissioners, CVPAs, Coach Administrators, Coach Instructors and Area Staffs need to work together to insure volunteers get credit for courses taken and are Safe Haven Certified for their protection and most importantly for the protection of the children.

On-line courses are supplemental courses and designed for coaches who want to get a head start prior to attending instructor led courses and as a solution of last resort for volunteers with no access to trained AYSO instructors.  After completing an on-line course, the coach should attend an instructor led course as soon as available.

What to bring?

Coaching courses (except Safe Haven) include fieldwork.  Coaches should bring #5 soccer ball, shin guards, turf shoes or cleats, dry gym shoes with clean soles in case we have to use the gym, sun protection, paper, pencils and big smiles.

For the Intermediate and Advanced Coach courses, coaches must collectively bring at least 10 skilled U12 to U14 demonstration players for the Intermediate Coach course and at least 12 skilled U14 to U19 demonstration players for the Advanced Coach course.

The number of U-14 Intermediate and U-16 Advanced coach participants and demonstration team players must meet the minimums needed to conduct the course during all Saturday and Sunday sessions or course must be automatically canceled.  No exceptions.
